Wanaka Weekly

17 November 2011

Another couple of weeks have flown by again - where does the time go!  Definitely on the countdown to Christmas!

Well I took off for a couple of days last week and went to Christchurch wth the family - was great to catch up with lots of friends and see that the town is getting back on its feet.  The Canterbury A and P show was fantastic - the kids had a ball!

Wayne also snuck away for a couple of days and had a hip replacement!  He is doing fantastically and we left here in the office are slowly finding our way around his filing system!

Wonderful Wanaka

Hard on the heels of being named as one of Lonely Planet's Top 10 Places in the world to visit, Wanaka is getting more great publicity - our little town has just been named as one of 10 great mountain towns in the world - alongside the likes of Lucerne in Switzerland and Whistler in British Columbia.  We have also just hosted a group of travelling American writers and one described Wanaka as a "refreshing, authentic" destination!  We always knew this of course but it is exciting to see so many people recognising that we really do have such a special little slice of paradise here!  Do remember to check out the Lake Wanaka Tourism website to see what events and happenings are coming up.wanaka

Talk of the town this week has been about the arrival of the RNZAF Skyhawk for  Warbirds and Wheels.  This means all aircraft are now on site and the Trust are working hard to get it open for Christmas.  Other attractions housed with the aircraft will include a world class collection of privately owned classic cars, a permanent exhibition on local icon Sir Tim Wallis, a visual arts gallery showing NZ art and design, a retail shop and a retro diner cafe.

Well until next week - stay safe and roll on this lovely warm weather!

Kylie, Mandy, Wayne and the Te Wanaka Team.
