Wanaka Weekly

16 June 2011

Do a snow dance, wish upon a star, wrap your finger around a wishbone - whatever works for you to make the snow fall!!

Yes, we are still waiting for the big dump and unfortunately no skifields are open just yet but it is coming!

Today we have beautiful blue skies, a frosty nip in the air and not a cloud in the sky - crazy to think the planes are all grounded.  Mandy, Wayne and the boys have had a forced extension to their holiday.  They are stuck in Australia at the moment no doubt having a wonderful time in one of the 6 pools in their resort - oh to be so lucky - but we are looking forward to seeing them home soon!!!

News from our little piece of paradise this week.....

Warbirds Over Wanaka Commuity Trust have announced they will be opening a new attraction out at the airport later this year.  Warbirds and Wheels will showcase the internationally renowned airshow and will be joined by a collection of rare classic cars and art works.  The display will tell the story of the trust's patron, Sir Tim Wallis, and will also include memorabilia, weapons and aircraft from both World Wars.

And DOC have announced that the popular Siberia Hut in Mt Aspiring National Park, that was destroyed by fire in March is to be rebuilt.  The new hut will sleep 20 to cater for the approximately 2000 overnight visitors per year, and will stand on the same site to make the most of the views up the valley.

Well hopefully by next week I can report about the huge dump of snow we have had and the opening of the fields.  Remember to pull out all your lucky charms and do whatever it takes to get Mother Nature to listen - and while you are there please tell her the people of Christchurch have had enough of the earthquakes now!  Our thoughts are with all those up there xoxo.

Kylie, Mandy, Wayne and the Te Wanaka Team.
