Wanaka What's What
Hello again. Well another week of beautiful weather in Wanaka. Mornings are definately getting a little cooler but we have had some gorgeous sunny days.
Wedding bells are ringing!! Huge congratulations go out to Ian Moore and Katie Finglass who got engaged here at the Lodge this week. We wish them all the best for the future!
And congratulations and celebrations this week go out to Hawea Flat School and community who have just announced that they raised over $100,000 in their recent HomeFront project. This involved building and auctioning a house in Lake Hawea's Timsfield subdivision and was made possible by many local tradesmen and businesses donating goods and services. Just another example of the fantastic, supportive community we live in.
Coming up on Saturday 9th April is Art in the Park. This will be a pre-cursor to the biennial Festival of Colour, held in the park like setting of Minaret Lodge. Since 2001, this event has attracted established and budding artists from Central Otago, the Southern Lakes and further afield. Art in the Park (AIP) combines music and art, wine and food for the day, celebrating the onset of Autumn. AIP has grown over the years and 2011 will see the introduction of some new elements to the event; for example, an artist residency, an art scholarship and an auction. Come and enjoy Harvest High Tea, or drink fine wine, listen to the strains of classical music and appreciate the art, surrounded by a carpet of Autumn leaves.
And on the 16th April is once again the Hawea Contact EPIC mountain bike race. This is a 125km race around Lake Hawea with proceeds this year going to the Canterbury Earthquake appeal.
The Wanaka Nature Encounter. A new product from Eco Wanaka Adventures and Ridgeline Adventures. This includes a boat cruise, a guided walk, cafe lunch, 4WD tour of a local sheep station and wine tasting. Be sure to check this out on your next visit to Wanaka.
Stay safe and see you next week.
